About the HABC

The Hopwood American Bulldog Club was formed in 2002

The idea behind it came from the need for legitimate

sanctioned conformation shows, and working events for the breed

where the points and titles gained would be

credible and recognised throughout the world,

we strongly believed that the issues relevant to the breed,

ie health issues, ethical breeding,

and responsible ownership, ect

needed to be openly discussed and promoted.
Information on some of these issues can be found by

visiting some of the websites found on this sites links page.

We have included a little advice on this website

re buying an AB in the UK
This is by no means comprehensive and only outlines the basics of
what you should be looking out for and should expect to do...

this advice can be found on the

Puppy Buying Advice link

We will also be adding more information on

other issues concerning the breed.

The HABC began with our first show in June 2003

and we held a further five conformation shows

then under the American Bulldogs Association (ABA)

We also held working events each year,

the first of which in June 2004

were the first AKC - CGC and Irondog International IDT3

events to be held in the UK.

The second working event held in July 2005

also saw the inclusion of the first WABA testing to be held in the UK.

At the end of 2005,

the HABC decided to make a big change

and move from hosting ABA conformation shows

to hosting sanctioned shows under the

American Bulldog National Alliance (ABNA).

This was seen as the best move for many reasons;

The ABNA has been a worldwide recognised

show and event organisation for the breed since 1999,

IT IS NOT A BREED REGISTRY.
The ABNA accepts dogs from all major registries at its shows.

which are the

ABA / NKC / ARF / UKC / JDJ / ABRA / ARFE

The ABNA has many shows across Europe

where people can easily compete if they wish.

The ABNA is not owned by any one person,

it is run by a committee of up to

25 people worldwide in the breed.
The ABNA is a non-profit making organisation.

We aim to continue to put on working events

with the same organisations that we have in the past

 GDT / IDT3 & IDT5 (Irondog International)

& WABA Events when viable...
along with other fun sport events...

Sprint Race, Tug of War, Drag Pulls, Hang-Time ect....

The HABC is committee based

& includes the following members:

Colin Brown & Tracy McAughey

Craig Limb & Tracy Wragg

Teresa Brown & Pete Fern

Pete & Lynn Hewitt
